Creating Green Learning Environments in Ghana

African Sisters Education Collaborative (ASEC)

Through the ASEC Scholarship Program, a sister in Ghana is transforming early childhood education by mentoring teachers, engaging young learners, and promoting sustainability through teaching materials made from recyclables.

As a beneficiary of the ASEC Scholarship Program, I am deeply committed and passionate about fostering the development of young children. ASEC’s support has enabled me to pursue studies in early childhood education and make a significant impact on the lives of children.

My studies in early childhood education have equipped me with the knowledge and skills needed to create a nurturing learning environment. I have been able to make a lasting impact on the lives of young children through my expertise and dedication to their growth and development. The scholarship has played a crucial role in supporting my educational journey, empowering me to create positive change in the crèche schools in which I serve. These include the Archbishop Amissah Memorial School in Breman Asikuma, Ghana and the Sisters of the Infant Jesus (SIJ) Crèche and Nursery School in Dunkwa-On-Offin, Ghana. Crèche is a term used for daycare institutions in which young children are provided care during typical work day hours.

Teachers at both crèche schools have benefited from my mentorship, gaining confidence and professional growth. Through training sessions and guidance, I have equipped teachers with practical teaching techniques and strategies rooted in early childhood education. The scholarship has not only empowered me but has also had a direct impact on the professional development of the teachers I work with.

Parents have witnessed their children's academic and social development, appreciating the enjoyable and accessible learning experiences I have brought to the schools. The support has contributed to the enhanced educational experiences and overall growth of these children. By investing in my education, ASEC has indirectly impacted the lives of the parents in the community, instilling in them a sense of hope and confidence in their children's educational journey.

Moreover, due to the use of Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs) made from recyclables, both schools, their teachers, and parents are actively contributing to a green environment. The adoption of sustainable practices has not only enriched the learning experiences but has also instilled environmental consciousness in the crèche schools. By utilizing recyclables to create TLMs, we are promoting the importance of recycling, reducing waste, and fostering a sense of responsibility towards our environment.

The impact of my efforts has been remarkable. The use of TLMs made from recyclables has transformed the learning environment in both crèche schools, resulting in increased student engagement and improved learning outcomes. The children are actively involved in the learning process, as the TLMs make abstract concepts more tangible and accessible to their young minds. Simultaneously, this innovative approach promotes a greener and more sustainable educational setting.

Furthermore, my dedication and commitment to my role have had a profound impact on my personal and professional growth. Through my work in the crèche schools, I have further honed my skills in early childhood education, instructional design, and sustainable practices. The experiences and knowledge gained through the sponsorship have shaped me into a more effective and compassionate educator, dedicated to nurturing both young minds and a greener future.

In conclusion, the ASEC Scholarship Program has played a pivotal role in enabling me to make a significant impact on early childhood education in Archbishop Amissah Memorial School and SIJ Crèche and Nursery. My expertise in early childhood education and the innovative use of TLMs from recyclables have resulted in improved learning outcomes, increased student engagement, and financial sustainability. Together, we have positively influenced the lives of the children, the overall educational experience, and contributed to a greener environment in both schools.

I am immensely grateful for ASEC’s generous support. Your investment has yielded tangible and meaningful results, empowering me to make a lasting difference in the lives of young children, their families, and in my own professional journey. I hope that ASEC takes pride in the positive impact that the Scholarship Program has had on early childhood education and environmental sustainability in the Central Region of Ghana.
