Bigwa Students Need Help After Dormitory Fire

Tue, Sep 1, 2026

A fire at the ASEC-supported Bigwa Secondary School in Morogoro, Tanzania, destroyed the girls’ dormitory, leaving students without clothing, school supplies, sanitary items, personal belongings, and bedding materials. Thankfully, all students and staff are safe. But the school community now faces the difficult task of recovering and rebuilding.

We urgently appeal for your financial support for the Bigwa school community during this challenging time. Your donation will help provide students with the basic necessities they lost and support the school community as it begins to rebuild. Every contribution, regardless of size, will help replace essential items that students need for sleeping, dressing, personal hygiene, health, and daily life as they recover from the loss.

Emergency Support Cost Breakdown

Following the fire, 118 students need essential bedding, clothing, personal items, and access to clean water. The estimated cost to replace these necessities is $34,824.28.

For more than 20 years, ASEC has supported Bigwa Secondary School in a variety of ways. During this time, we have seen firsthand the tremendous difference this school makes in the lives of young women and in the wider community. Today, Bigwa needs our help more than ever.

Please consider making a donation to help Bigwa recover, rebuild, and continue providing these students with the education and opportunities they deserve. Your generosity will help restore a sense of stability, dignity, and hope for the girls whose lives have been so suddenly disrupted.

We also invite you to join ASEC in praying for the students, faculty, and entire Bigwa community during this difficult time. Together, we can help the Bigwa community rebuild and ensure these young women can continue to learn, grow and pursue their dreams

The Students at Bigwa Need Your Help

You can help Bigwa students begin rebuilding their lives after the fire. Your gift will provide essential items they need to return to school and continue their education.

Please select Urgent Appeal for Bigwa Secondary School from the menu.
