My Journey with ASEC: Transforming Lives Through Education

A donation from Conrad N. Hilton Fund for sisters to renovate visitors’ house.

Sat, Sep 28, 2024

This Sister reflects on her transformative journey with ASEC, highlighting how the program equipped her with leadership, administrative, and technological skills. Her story exemplifies the power of education in fostering societal change, cultural awareness, and community development.

I would like to share how my experience in the African Sisters Education Collaborative (ASEC) program has profoundly influenced my professional journey and personal development.

Participating in ASEC has equipped me with essential skills and knowledge that have greatly enhanced my leadership and administrative capabilities. Through intensive training sessions and practical experiences, I have learned to manage projects, lead initiatives, and inspire others towards common goals. I have developed expertise in modern technology, methodology, curriculum development, and educational management, all of which I now apply to improve educational standards within my institutions. ASEC also provided valuable networking opportunities with other educators and leaders, fostering collaboration and the exchange of best practices.

On a personal level, my involvement in ASEC deepened my appreciation for education’s transformative power. Witnessing the positive effects of education on the lives of Sisters and their communities reinforced my commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth. I’ve been inspired to advocate for educational opportunities for others, recognizing education as a fundamental tool for empowerment and societal development.

Moreover, the program broadened my cultural awareness and sensitivity, allowing me to interact with Sisters from diverse backgrounds and gain new perspectives. This exposure has made me more adaptable and respectful of the differences that enrich our global community.

ASEC strengthened my purpose. Its values of service, community development, and social justice inspire me to improve my community. The program helped me develop the skills, knowledge, and mindset needed to meaningfully contribute to society.

The ASEC programme shows African women’s resilience and leadership in overcoming educational and career barriers. It stresses the importance of women in changing communities and shaping educational and leadership systems worldwide.

In conclusion, I express my heartfelt gratitude to the ASEC initiators and the Hilton Foundation for their unwavering support in making education accessible to religious women in Africa. Special thanks to the Executive Director of ASEC, Rev. Sr. Draru Mary Cecilia, our Country Director Rev. Sr. Germina Keneema, and Coordinator Rev. Sr. Monica Ajok Opige, as well as to our individual Institute Leadership Teams for enabling us to pursue these lifechanging programs.
