A recent alert, issued from the Diplomatic Security Service, has forced the cancellation of ASEC’s 2018 Service Learning trip to Nairobi, Kenya.

ASEC’s annual Service Learning trip will take place from May 20-June 9, 2018. A total of 13 participants will be traveling to Kenya and staying with the Little Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi (LSOSF), a missionary community, where they will take part in service learning activities within the LSOSF compound and throughout Nairobi.

What surprised me most about my learning during the service trip to Kenya was how unaware I had been about the obvious successes of Catholic sisters in helping the poor become educated, seize economic opportunities, and to lead healthier lives.

Not only do I want to thank ASEC for arranging this eclectic program and allowing me and my group to see the many aspects of a developing country, but I will be ever grateful for the friends I made, because our relationships and interactions made such a powerful impression.

8 students from Marywood University & Chestnut Hill College attended a 3-week service trip to Kenya this summer. They provided service at various sites, including a refugee center, a hospital, a home for street boys, and an orphanage for both physically and mentally disabled children.

After the Service Learning trip in May 2012, a service learning student donated funds for a second fish pond at Bigwa.

As a result of her life-changing experience visiting the Bigwa Secondary School, one Service Learning student donated $1,000 to purchase a cow so that the students at the Bigwa School could benefit.

In May-June 2010 eleven students and three mentors from Chestnut Hill College, Rosemont College and Marywood University traveled to Morogoro, Tanzania to participate in a service opportunity at the Bigwa Sisters Secondary School.
