Scholarship Graduate Receives Prestigious Award

Sr. Judith Zulu, RGS, recipient of the Outstanding and Long-Serving Employee Award at the Zambia Federation of Employers Labour Day Celebrations

Fri, Aug 29, 2025

Scholarship alumna Sr. Judith Zulu was nationally recognized in Zambia with a Labour Day Award for her dedicated service as a clinical officer, improving healthcare for her community.

The Zambian national holiday of Labour Day is celebrated annually on May 1st. During Labour Day celebrations, held locally and nationally across the country, workers are recognized for the vital contributions they make to their country’s development. In 2025, Zambian government officials paid tribute to the country’s workforce under the theme “Shaping Zambia’s Future of Work Through Home-Grown Solutions for Inclusive Economic Growth.” The 2025 celebrations in Zambia included a special tribute to the resilience and dedication of ASEC Scholarship alum, Sr. Judith Zulu of the Good Shepherd Sisters of Chipata (RGS).

Sr. Judith received an Outstanding and Long-Serving Employee Award at the Zambia Federation of Employers Labour Day Celebrations on May 1, 2025. This national award was in recognition of Sr. Judith’s contributions to the productivity of the Mwachisompola First Level Hospital, Chibombo District, where she provides clinical services.

Sr. Judith’s education was supported by the ASEC Scholarship Program in 2018 and 2019. With ASEC’s support, she graduated from Cavendish University of Zambia in July 2020 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Medicine. The training she received has allowed her to skillfully treat surgical, obstetric, gynaecological, internal medicine, and pediatric conditions.

Sr. Judith says, “The knowledge and skills I acquired during my training has helped to save souls spiritually, psychologically, socially, and medically.”

Further, Sr. Judith is persistent in her work, overcoming challenges such as a lengthy and dangerous commute and assisting in upgrading the hospital’s medical facilities to meet the needs of the large population it serves. It is well known that Sr. Judith puts in long hours to ensure that each and every patient is attended to.

The important services Sr. Judith provides in her community have been recognized not only at the local level, but with this award, at the national level as well. ASEC joins the Zambian people in congratulating Sr. Judith on a job well done!
