My journey through the ASEC Program from 2023 to 2024

The ASEC program empowers Catholic Sisters in Africa with values-based education, enhancing their leadership, financial management, and project management skills. Inspired by lessons in Stewardship, Accountability, and Integrity, Sisters are initiating sustainable projects that create jobs and foster community development.

Participating in the African Sisters Education Collaborative (ASEC) program has profoundly influenced my professional journey and personal development. It has heightened my awareness of the essential values of Stewardship, Accountability, and Integrity—key elements that drive ethical behavior and personal growth.

Through ASEC, I have honed my leadership and administration skills, learning to effectively manage projects and inspire collaboration. The significance of leading by example was emphasized throughout the program, as it fosters an environment of peace and unity. Accountability, in particular, has become a core part of my daily life, reminding me to take ownership of my actions and communicate thoughtfully. An important lesson I learned was the necessity of acknowledging mistakes and seeking forgiveness—an integral part of effective leadership.

Despite facing challenges, particularly during the rainy season when network connectivity suffered, I adapted by utilizing recorded presentations and notes. Additionally, I learned to balance my commitments to others without feeling overwhelmed.

The ASEC program promotes women’s empowerment and leadership in Africa by enhancing our competencies in leadership and financial management, ultimately aiming to create jobs and combat poverty. One of my most memorable experiences was our discussions on Stewardship, Accountability, and Integrity—values that underpin ethical behavior and effective service.

Inspired by these teachings, I initiated a coffee project on one and a half acres of land, enhancing our income while employing four workers. By applying what I learned about employee management, I strive to reward and encourage my team. Although I face challenges with pests and diseases, I remain proactive in monitoring the plants.

Ultimately, ASEC aims to empower Sisters to apply their skills for the benefit of their institutes and communities. It has united us religious women under the banner of collaboration. As ASEC celebrates its Silver Jubilee, I recognize our responsibility as alumni to implement the knowledge gained, fostering growth in our communities and spreading the good news of education’s impact.
