Effective financial management at Monze Mission Hospital is essential to sustaining quality healthcare for the region’s largely rural population1. This 270-bed facility provides medical care to approximately 800,000 people and accounts for nearly 15% of total employment in the district, underscoring its critical role in both public health and the local economy2. Without careful stewardship of its limited financial resources, access to reliable healthcare services in the Southern Province of Zambia would be significantly compromised.

Sr. Purity Siloka of the Religious Sisters of the Holy Spirit (RSHS) plays a central role in strengthening the hospital’s financial management systems through her work as an accountant. She completed ASEC’s Sisters Leadership Development Initiative’s (SLDI) Administration Track in 2021 and, through the ASEC Scholarship Program, earned a Diploma in Accountancy from the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants in 2020. As a result of her studies, Sr. Purity obtained the Chartered Accountant Zambia (CAZ) certification, a professional credential reflecting her rigorous training and high ethical standards in financial management.

Reflecting on her vocational path, Sr. Purity shared, “I wanted to pursue accounting because I have a passion for it and it has been my dream profession since childhood.”

At Monze Mission Hospital, she oversees four separate accounts, applying the technical expertise and leadership skills gained through both SLDI and her formal accountancy training. Since the hospital receives funding from both the government and the Catholic Church, it is subject to regular audits to ensure transparency, accountability, and the appropriate allocation of resources for health services. Under Sr. Purity’s professional oversight, financial transactions are carefully documented and safeguarded against mismanagement or fraud.

Following her educational formation through ASEC, Sr. Purity reports feeling “equipped and empowered to carry out different roles in the accounting field.” Her work demonstrates how strengthened financial capacity directly supports institutional stability and service delivery. At Monze Mission Hospital, sound fiscal management does more than balance budgets—it saves lives.
