Sr. Lina Wanjiku Ndung'u, SE

Regional Director - East & Central Africa

Sr. Lina Wanjiku Ndung'u was born in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya into a family of six—three boys and three girls. She is the second-born child in her family. A member of the Congregation of the Sisters of Emmanuel of Muranga Diocese, Kenya, Sr. Lina currently serves as the Superior General. In June 2020, she celebrated her Silver Jubilee, marking 25 years of dedication to religious life.

She completed high school in 1986 and subsequently enrolled in Kenya Utalii College, where she pursued a course in Front Office Operations. After working at the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) for three years, she joined the sisterhood in January 1993. She made her first profession of vows on June 29, 1995, and her final profession in December 2002.

In 2006, Sr. Lina began her studies at the Catholic University for Eastern Africa (CUEA), earning a Bachelor’s degree in History and Religious Education (CRE) with first-class honors in 2009.

She began her role with the African Sisters Education Collaborative (ASEC) as the Director for East Africa in 2010. Sr. Lina finds this position deeply fulfilling, particularly in witnessing the academic and professional development of many sisters. She is inspired by the transformative success of ASEC graduates, who have enhanced their self-esteem, confidence, and leadership skills, making a significant impact on their communities and the broader African continent.

Resonating with the words of the great Chinese philosopher Confucius, Sr. Lina believes: “If you think in terms of a year, plant a seed; if you think in terms of 10 years, plant a tree; if you think in terms of 100 years, teach the people.”

She is known for her open, outgoing, and adventurous nature.
