Judith Alamprese

Judith Alamprese is a sociologist who has directed research, evaluation, and technical assistance projects in adult learning and workforce development for more than five decades. Her studies have investigated the structural conditions and education, workforce, supportive services, and other factors that can enable adults to develop their foundational skills and pursue higher education and training that can lead to their personal, social, and economic well-being and their pursuit of lifelong learning.
Her professional life has involved work at private-sector and university-based research centers where she has procured funding and developed and executed multi-year, complex projects. Early in her career, she served as a Senior Research Associate at Syracuse University’s Family Development Research Program and as a Research Fellow at the Syracuse Research Corporation. Her work in Washington, DC has included serving as an Education Policy Fellow at the U.S. Department of Education, a Management Consultant at Huthwaite, Inc. and Group Director at COSMOS Corporation. In 1996 she joined Abt Global as a Principal Scientist where she remained until she retired in April 2025. In 2025 she established Alamprese & Associates where she continues her research and evaluation work and serves as advisor to the European Basic Skills Network and the National Association of the State Directors of Adult Education.
Alamprese has served on technical advisory groups for the U.S. Departments of Education and Labor and the National Research Council and has been a member of the U.S. delegations to UNESCO and OECD conferences. She received her M.A. in Sociology from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and her B. A. in Sociology (with Honors) from Emmanuel College, Boston.
