After three years (2016-2018) of learning to skills to better serve their communities and congregations, 95 religious women from across Nigeria graduated from the SLDI program with the drive to put their new skills into action.

Service trip to volunteer in Ghana scheduled for 2019

Dec 10, 2018: [Ghana] In May 2019, volunteers from Chestnut Hill College and Marywood University will spend three weeks volunteering in schools and rehabilitation centers in the west African nation of Ghana under the auspices of ASEC.

This year alone, ASEC facilitated a total of 36 SLDI Workshops in ten countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Above are some of our SLDI students from Kenya, Zambia, Malawi and Nigeria.

Grant awarded to ASEC to support children in South Sudan

Sep 21, 2018: [SouthSudan] Through a grant from the Hilton Foundation, ASEC is providing education and supplies to children in camp sites in South Sudan.

Sr. Joan Chisala, CSJB, of Zambia, is the third African sister to be awarded a six-month fellowship to work as part of a research team at the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA) at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

3rd Visiting Scholar Selected for CARA Research Fellowship

Aug 21, 2018: [Zambia, USA] Sr. Joan Chisala, CSJB, of Zambia is the third sister scholar accepted for a six month research fellowship to learn applied research skills in the apostolate at the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA), Georgetown University.

Partners Workshops held to plan the next phase of SLDI program

Jul 5, 2018: [Ghana, Kenya] Partners Workshops held in Kenya and Ghana bring together SLDI stakeholders to discuss the future of the SLDI program.

In 2018, 46 students graduated from Bigwa Seminary Secondary School in Tanzania. 29 of those students were able to graduate because of the ASEC two year Bigwa scholarship.

Apr 17, 2018: [Kenya, USA] ASEC’s annual Service Learning trip will take place from May 20-June 9, 2018. A total of 13 participants will be traveling to Kenya and staying with the Little Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi (LSOSF), a missionary community, where they will take part in service learning activities within the LSOSF compound and throughout Nairobi.
