Sisters on a Mission: ASEC Directors Travel Coast to Coast with Stories of Hope

Sr. Lina Wanjiku Ndugn’u, SE; Sr. Clarisse Remjika Jaiwo, SST; and Sr. Francisca Demoah, SIJ, pause for a photo outside ASEC headquarters at Marywood University. The directors are spending part of the summer in the U.S., sharing the impact of ASEC-supported sisters across Africa.

Three ASEC directors from Africa are traveling across the U.S. this summer to share how Catholic sisters, empowered by education, are transforming lives across the continent.

Three African directors from the African Sisters Education Collaborative (ASEC) are spending part of this summer in the United States, traveling coast to coast to share stories of transformation!

Sr. Francisca Demoah, SIJ, ASEC director in West Africa and Ghana; Sr. Clarisse Remjika Jaiwo, SST, Director for Cameroon and ASEC’s SLDI Africa Coordinator; and Sr. Lina Wanjiku Ndugn’u, SE, Regional Director for East and Central Africa, are journeying from Maine to California, making many stops along the way to tell the story of ASEC. The sisters have each spent years helping other sisters across Africa access education and training to serve their communities better. Their mission in the U.S. is to share how ASEC-supported sisters are changing lives through education, healthcare, and social work that gives hope to the marginalized.

During their visit to ASEC headquarters in Scranton, PA, the African directors met with ASEC staff, shared stories from the field, and connected with members of the Marywood University community. Their work supports the education of sisters who are transforming lives through service.

Before continuing their travels, the sisters visited ASEC’s headquarters at Marywood University in Scranton, PA. The visit allowed the sisters and U.S. staff members, Sr. Nancy Kamau, LSOSF, Development Director; Maureen Elliott, Assistant Development Director; Isabelle Henry, Program Coordinator; and Jake Stevens, Media and Communications Manager, to connect with future students during Marywood University’s Pacer Priorities Day. The sisters will continue their travels across the country, meeting with supporters and new audiences along the way. Wherever they go, the sisters bring stories of the lasting impact of education and the hope it creates.

Help Educate a Sister Who Will Transform Her Community

As Sr. Francisca, Sr. Clarisse, and Sr. Lina journey across the U.S. sharing stories of hope and healing, you can take action to support sisters just like them. These women have dedicated their lives to uplifting others through education, healthcare, and social services in some of the most underserved communities in Africa. While you can’t donate directly to the sisters in this story, you can sponsor the education of a sister who will follow in their footsteps, and change countless lives in the process.
