ASEC Joins in Celebration of the 175th Anniversary of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus

On October 16-17, 2021, representatives from ASEC traveled to Philadelphia, PA, to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus, one of ASEC’s founding congregations.

Beginning October 2020, the Sisters of the Holy Child Jesus (SHCJ) joined with friends, family, alumnae, schools and ministries worldwide to celebrate their 175th Anniversary. The year-long celebration offered many opportunities for prayer, service and gatherings that center on the Society’s past, present and future to Love & Serve.

SHCJ is an international community of women religious founded by Cornelia Connelly in 1846. Today, SHCJ spans four continents and ministers to tens of thousands of people each and every year.

On Sunday, October 17, 2021, the yearlong celebration concluded with a Liturgy at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul in Philadelphia, PA. In attendance on behalf of ASEC were Sr. Draru Mary Cecilia, LSMIG, ASEC Executive Director, and Sr. Nancy Kamau, LSOSF, ASEC Director of Development.

The African Sisters Education Collaborative (ASEC) was established in 1999 by four Catholic universities in the U.S. and their congregations, including the Society of the Holy Child Jesus in Rosemont, PA. Sr. Carroll Juliano, SHCJ American Province Leader, serves on ASEC’s Board of Directors.
