This Sister shares her transformative journey through ASEC’s Sisters Leadership Development Initiative (SLDI), highlighting key projects like clean water tanks, solar installations, and school renovations. Her story reflects the power of education in restoring human dignity and fostering sustainable community development.
After my first religious profession, I was invited to join the African Sisters Education Collaborative (ASEC) program under at 2013- 2015, where I participated in the Sisters Leadership Development Initiative (SLDI) focused on finance for three years.
We studied various topics, including Computer Skills, Microsoft Office, Financial Management, Resource Mobilization, Grant Writing, Management and Reporting, Human Resource Management, and more. These skills have greatly contributed to my personal growth, apostolic work, and the spirituality of my institute.
I now write project proposals within my institute, resulting in numerous projects that benefit women, youth, and children, fulfilling our purpose of “Restoration of Human Dignity.”
Some of the important projects I’ve managed include:
- Purchase of a Steel Water Tank (100,000L) at St. Monica Health Center III, Katende: This project was designed to provide clean and safe water for delivering mothers and other patients, installed in the maternity ward.
- Compound Upgrade, Renovation, and Construction at St. Zoe Schools: We addressed the inconvenience caused by erosion and mud in the school compound funded by Kindermissionswerk. The changes have improved sanitation and comfort for students and staff.
- Purchase of Furniture for Cabana Nursery and Lower Primary School: Funded by the Conrad Hilton Fund for Sisters, this initiative provided comfortable seating and storage for students and staff, enhancing the learning environment.
- Solar System Installation at Ulrika Institute of Home Economics: This project granted solar panels and batteries to illuminate the school at night, allowing students to study and improving safety with security lights.
- Steel Water Tank (50,000L) at Uganda Martyrs’ Primary School, Kyankwanzi: This tank provides clean water to the community, addressing the needs of pastoralists facing drought and unsafe water sources.
- Steel Water Tank (100,000L) at St. Kizito High School, Bethany: This initiative ensured access to clean water for students, improving sanitation and hygiene.
- Steel Water Tank (100,000L) at Archbishop Joseph Cabana Health Center III, Ssunga: This tank was installed for delivering mothers and patients to ensure easy access to water.
I am deeply grateful to the Association of Religious in Uganda for supporting sisters in their apostolates. I particularly thank the ASEC program, which equipped me with essential financial skills that I apply in my institute. Empowering women in education and leadership enables Africa to unlock its potential for development and equality. I also extend my heartfelt thanks to all our donors for supporting our ministries.
