On April 24, 2024, ASEC hosted A Night of Storytelling: Creativity as ASEC prepares to celebrate its 25th Anniversary this year. The event was an evening of laughter, reflection, and most importantly, Inspiration as the speakers shared stories from ASEC’s inception to the work being done today. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, ASEC raised enough to provide three Catholic sisters in Africa with a year of education. Attendees enjoyed coffee, tea, and an assortment of desserts as well as a basket raffle before the event. Those who could not attend in person were encouraged to participate in the 50/50 raffle and livestream on Facebook.
The event opened with remarks from MC, WNEP’s Stacy Lange and ASEC’s Executive Director Sister Draru Mary Cecilia, LSMIG.The featured storytellers; Sister Rosalia Sakayombo, SHS, Erin Bitting, Sister Ann Kamene Musyoka, ASN, and keynote speaker Sister Mary Persico, IHM, Ed.D. invigorated the audience with their powerful accounts of creativity, resilience, and the transformative power of education. Through these personal insights, they shed light on the vital work being done by ASEC and its impact on communities across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Following the storytelling session, attendees had the opportunity to engage with the speakers during a Q&A session. It was a chance for all to gain a deeper understanding of ASEC and its impact. Afterward, a joyful dance with the ASEC staff was led by Sister Nancy Kamau. The evening concluded with and 50/50 and basket raffle drawing. 50/50 winner Sister Michele Bisaillon, DHS Provincial, generously donated all of her winnings back to ASEC.
We are filled with gratitude for the support of our community in Scranton and the surrounding cities across the state and beyond. This achievement would not have been possible without the support of each individual who attended the event, purchased raffle tickets, or donated. Your dedication to our cause is inspiring, and we are honored to have your support as we continue to transform lives and communities through ASEC.
