From October 16–19, 2016 members of ASEC staff will travel to Nairobi, Kenya for the Catholic Sisters Champions of Sustainable Development in Africa convening at Sarova Panafric.
The reason for this convening is to listen and learn from all attendees rather than to hear formal presentations. Understanding the objectives and core ideas anchoring the work of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation and the Catholic Sisters Strategic Initiative will help in assuring that African nations are in the forefront of achieving sustainable development for all citizens by 2030.
Representatives from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, USC Center for Religion and Civic Culture, and the African Sisters Education Collaborative (ASEC) will be in attendance. In addition, individuals from 15 countries serving as Church and government officials, faith based and community organizations, international, regional and local foundations as well as representatives of the leadership of Congregations of women religious.
There are three themes surround the upcoming convening:
- Networks: building a community of shared practice among African sisters, the Catholic Church, philanthropy, governments, the NGO community and other actors committed to sustainable development in Africa
- Knowledge: understanding how we might better capture and communicate the impact of our work together
- Solidarity: articulating a shared vision and commitment to advance the sustainable development agenda themes
Convening Goals
- to understand the objectives and core ideas anchoring the work of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation and the Catholic Sisters Strategic Initiative.
- to understand the extent to which we are achieving our objectives in Africa and identify where we might revise our approach to achieve even higher degrees of impact.
- to appreciate the potential of Catholic Sisters as full members of the global partnership for sustainable development as well as the obstacles they face in connecting to the networks of communion and expertise required to be effective partners.
- to commit to working together to mitigate these obstacles and realize this potential.
Our ASEC family is looking forward to the convening and plan to share updates and photos throughout the event.
