ASEC's work in Tanzania
SLDIHESAScholarship ProgramPartners

Tanzania is home to over 50 million people. Approximately 60% of the 11,000 sisters here lack secondary education. ASEC works with 95 congregations registered with the Tanzania Catholic Association of Sisters (TCAS).

SLDI has been working in Tanzania since 2007.


SLDI has served 255 unique particpants in the program.

Tanzania led the reporting countries in 2012-15 in percentage of

  • agriculture-focused (17.2%) projects
  • eco-conscious (6.9%) projects.

Tanzania’s impact projects are helping to address the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, specifically

HESA has been working in Tanzania since 2013.


HESA is supporting 67 sisters to study for degrees and diplomas.

The majority of sisters are studying for Bachelor of Education and Business Administration degrees. The remainder are studying for a diploma in Leadership and Resource Management.

The Scholarship Program has been in Tanzania since 2012.


The Scholarship Program was created to meet the unique educational needs expressed by sisters in Tanzania.

104 women religious have been able to attend school because of ASEC's scholarship program. They are studying for their secondary education or two-year diploma.

HESA sisters, through the Onsite Model, are studying for Bachelor’s degrees in Theology or Catechetics.

Christian Organizations Research and Advisory Trust (CORAT)  (Kenya)
Facilitate SLDI workshops in Kenya, Zambia, Malawi, Uganda, and Tanzania, and play an important role in updating and improving the workshop curricula.

Enterprise Management Development Center (EMD)  (Kenya)
Facilitate SLDI workshops in Kenya, Zambia, Malawi, Uganda, and Tanzania, and play an important role in updating and improving the workshop curricula.

Tangaza University College  (Nairobi, Kenya)
Services HESA sisters through the Onsite Model. SLDI alumni can complete the program in one-year. Sisters are studying for Diplomas in Leadership and Resource Management.

The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA)  (Nairobi, Kenya)
Partnered with Marywood University to support the HESA program in East Africa. Sisters complete one full year via online distance learning delivered by Marywood University and transfer to CUEA to complete their degrees.

Sisters in the HESA program study here through the Onsite Model. Through this partnership sisters can select from various bachelor's’ degree programs relevant to their ministries. The majority are studying for education degrees.
