"I didn't know that I could do it! Sr. Clementina kept on encouraging me that I am successful even when I receive a negative response; it shows that my effort is not a waste. Eventually, I wrote to [a grantee] and it was a great success."

I am an SLDI Alumna 2015 graduate; I finished with Financial Management Group. I learn how to write Grant Proposals during the sessions when we were having our SLDI Financial Management Training.

I have tried to write a few proposals on my own.  Sr. Clementina kept on encouraging me that I am successful even when I receive a negative response; it shows that my effort is not a waste.  Eventually, I wrote to the White Fathers Development Office in Washington and it was a great success.

We are very grateful to the Missionaries of Africa - White Fathers, for the support given to us the Sisters of Our Lady of Fatima in Jos, Plateau State Nigeria. We are very happy for their generosity of accepting to give us this grant to help us able to access portable drinking water in our training house in Kuru Community, Jos Plateau State, Nigeria.

Access to portable drinking water and domestic work has been a problem in our training house for a long period of time. Thanks be to God the Missionaries of Africa White Fathers has made this dream of accessing water to our Novitiate come to a reality. We say a big thank you to them.

The fund for this project was approved in July 2016 and the money was send through the Regional Bursar of Missionaries of Africa White Fathers in Nigeria.

Challenges

Survey was carried out to see if we could drill another borehole, but it was realized that there were two boreholes at the spot one of the borehole was having enough water. The two boreholes were flushed to see which of them will be suitable and can serve the purpose of providing a portable drinking water.

Another challenge encounter during the project was the distance from the borehole side to the location of the underground and overhead tanks the distance is over 2 kilometers. Apart from distance of location of the borehole there was problem of the area being rocky and have a lot of grasses.

Success

We started work immediate we employ the services of another Engineer. The Engineer Mr. Monday and his workers worked very hard for the success of this Project.

Despite the numerous challenges the Engineer was able to organized for the digging, laying pipes and the connection to the underground, overhead and to the different points to be able to access water.

It was a thing of joy to see the novices and the Sisters of Our Lady of Fatima expressing their joy and excitement to see water flowing in all corners of the novitiate begging from around the compound, kitchen, bathrooms/toilets etc. The excitement was so much that they were all singing praise to God and thanking the donors of the funds.

Conclusion

Once again we are grateful for providing this grant to enable us achieve our aim of Rehabilitation of the old borehole to access a portable drinking water and for domestic use in our training house. We assure you that we would try as much as we can to maintain this precious gift.

As a person, I am just grateful that I was able to do it and now I have the urge to do more by the grace of God.

This project is directly addressing UN Sustainable Development Goal(s):
